How Green Glue Compound Works

SOUND WAVES DEFORM THE MATERIAL LIKE PRESSING A FINGER INTO A MATTRESS

When hitting the panel, sound waves create air pressure variations on the surface of the board. These pressure variations directly translate into small amplitude vibrations in the board.

THE MATERIAL SHEARS

The vibrations generate flexural deformations in both panels. Constrained between these 2 deforming layers, the layer of Green Glue Noiseproofing Compound is submitted to considerable shear stress.

AS THE MATERIAL SHEARS HEAT IS GENERATED IN GREEN GLUE

The molecular structure of Green Glue has been designed in order to hinder shear forces and generate important intermolecular friction. This friction between the molecules converts an important part of the initial vibration energy into small amounts of heat.

ABSORBING THE ENERGY OF THE WAVE CONVERTING IT INTO HEAT

Although the generated heat is not perceptible, the heat losses considerably reduce the vibration level. That phenomenon of energy conversion is called damping and Green Glue has been designed in order to maximize it at normal room temperature.
