QuietBox Installation Instructions With GenieClip LB

Only the last layer of drywall will overlay the QuietBox, all other layers will butt up against the sides of the QuietBox.

Our QuietBox is sized to fit many different models of recessed light housings from various manufacturers including housings that use LED, incandescent, low voltage, and CFL bulbs. We only approve use of IC rated housings within our QuietBox. Non-IC rated housings are prohibited from being installed inside our QuietBox. Non-IC rated housings will generate a significant amount of heat which will in turn cause the bulb to either overheat and shut off or spark a fire. DO NOT use a non-IC rated recessed light housing inside the QuietBox. If you do not know if your housing is IC rated or non-IC rated then contact the manufacturer or replace the housing entirely with an IC rated housing.

Seriously, NO non-IC rated housings allowed.

Attach GenieClip LB and QuietBox to the Joists Attach the GenieClip LB to the joist and then to the QuietBox. Most installations will require mounting the QuietBox flush to the bottom of the joist. For multiple layer assemblies, or decoupled assemblies (resilient clips or resilient channel), install the QuietBox flush to the back of the finishing layer. The QuietBox will be able to rock a little on the corners that do not have the GenieClip LB installed. This is entirely normal and not a problem at all. For full stability you can purchase a third GenieClip LB, but this will increase the connections to the joist and not help the performance of the QuietBox in any way.		Attach Hook Side of Velcro and Run Electrical Our universal QuietBox design requires the use of Velcro to attach your recessed light housing to the inside of the QuietBox. Each QuietBox comes with a piece of Velcro long enough to cover one width side and one length side of the QuietBox. Remove the release paper from the hook side of the Velcro and attach it to the inside of the QuietBox as drawn above. Then pull your wire(s) through the pre-drilled hole. Make sure to leave enough slack to wire the housing.

Prepare the Recessed Light Housing For Installation The recessed light housing models that fit our QuietBox are the new construction housings. Not all housings are the same, but they generally have two attachment arms that are held to the housing by small tabs that can be twisted or pulled apart using a pair of pliers. Take this step to remove both attachment arms from the housing. Then use your pliers or a hammer to compress or smash any obstructions that would keep one width side and one length side from being flush. It is important to make the two sides flush so when you attach the hoop side of the Velcro to the housing you will have a quality seal between the Velcro and the housing.

Attach Velcro to the Recessed Light Housing Remove the release paper on the hoop side of the Velcro and attach the adhesive to one width side and one length side of the housing.		Wire the Housing and Attach to the QuietBox Connect the electrical to the recessed light housing and attach the Velcro loop on the housing to the Velcro hook inside the QuietBox. Depending on the size and weight of your recessed light housing, one side of the housing might be able to move a little. This is not a problem at all. The Velcro has been designed specifically for this purpose and will fully support the housing long enough for the drywall to be hung. After the drywall is hung the drywall and trim kit will hold the housing in place permanently.

Apply The Green Glue Sealant Apply sealant to fill the wire hole and along the bottom of the QuietBox frame before overlaying with drywall. For multiple layer assemblies, apply the sealant along the outside perimeter where the drywall will butt against the side of the QuietBox.		Install Drywall Mount the drywall to the ceiling framing or channel. If multiple layers are installed then butt the additional layers to the sides of the QuietBox with the finish layer overlaying the QuietBox.
