You can use our Heavy TotalMass Tape in situations where an acoustically rated seam tape is required in mass loaded vinyl installations. This tape is manufactured by us from a 4.5' x 25' roll of 1/2 LB TotalMass Barrier with an extremely sticky and permanent pressure sensitive adhesive on the back. The full roll of MLV is cut down to 2" wide rolls that remain 25' long.

The adhesive on our rolls of tape is very strong and is a perfect bond for joining two pieces of TotalMass together regardless of weight. Using this tape is not required for all installations. You can definitely use a standard vinyl duct tape to join your seams together, but when installing you will need to either overlap the MLV or make sure the MLV joints are tight. Regular duct tape is not acoustically rated so any gaps in the acoustic barrier covered with regular duct tape will degrade the performance of the barrier.
