The automatic door bottom is a crucial component of sound isolation with doors. This product attaches to the bottom of your existing door to create a tight seal which will keep air and sound from passing beneath the door. This heavy duty door bottom measures 2 1/2" high and is 7/8" thick. The standard automatic door bottom size is 36" wide and is finished with an anodized clear aluminum color.
The neoprene bottom is adjustable by two screws on top of the door bottom to create a perfect seal with the floor and the bottom of the door. This product is best suited for hard flooring areas, but can be used in carpeted areas as well with either a low pile carpet or if you install a flat threshold directly beneath the door. When the door is closed a small button on the side is compressed against the door jamb which lowers the neoprene bottom to create a tight seal with the floor. When the door is open, the small button on the side will decompress allowing the neoprene bottom to raise up slightly. This will provide enough clearance for the door to open without the neoprene element rubbing against the flooring.
This automatic door bottom has been both fire tested and acoustically rated to maintain an STC rating of 45 on a steel commercial door. The STC rating for a solid wood door with this automatic door bottom would be lower, but ultimately very similar in real world terms. In terms of isolation, the gap between the bottom of the door and the floor is the most significant gap for any door. Doors leaving the isolated area need to be sealed properly to maintain a high acoustic rating. This automatic door bottom provides that necessary seal.
Installation is very straight forward and customizable to fit your door. Read the guide below.
