Our Iso-Sill product acts as a permanently resilient gasket used to reduce sound and vibration transfer through building structures. This product is typically installed beneath the bottom plate or above the top plate in the wall's wood or steel stud framing. Iso-Sill is manufactured with recycled rubber and is formulated with high damping acrylic polymers which means this product is both efficient at isolating vibrations and environmentally friendly. Iso-Sill is impervious to water, most chemicals, temperature change, and will not rot or support the growth of mold.
A separate product considered an important accessory to the Iso-Sill is the Iso-Sill Bushing. This bushing maintains decoupling throughout the Iso-Sill installation which improves performance of the Iso-Sill significantly.
This product is installed directly beneath the bottom plate or directly above the top plate framing in your wall. The strips of Iso-Sill can be pieced together so there is essentially no waste involved. Measure the linear footage of your bottom or top plate to know how much Iso-Sill product you need. Each Iso-Sill strip is sold in 4' lengths so round up to the nearest 4' increment.
We strongly recommend the use of Iso-Sill Bushings to maintain a decoupled theme in the installation of the Iso-Sill. Estimating for the bushings is simple with 1 bushing required every 16" and typically installed between two studs.
Flanking of sound and structure borne vibration can significantly degrade performance in sound rated partitions for both wall and floor/ceiling assemblies. Both STC and IIC ratings can be affected by flanking by more than 10 points as compared to the non-flanked assemblies that you would find in typical lab testing environments.
Iso-Sill is used in continuous strips on both the top and bottom plates to ensure the sound rated assembly will be decoupled and remain fully effective. Your walls will rate closer to the ratings found in lab tests because flanking connections will be significantly reduced.
Iso-Sill can be used for wood and steel framing, or for concrete block or pour. Iso-Sill can be installed with mechanical fasteners (typically a 3" coarse thread wood screw). The 2" x 4" or 2" x 6" bottom or top plate should be pre-drilled with a 3/4" diameter hole. The fastening screw or anchor passes through the Iso-Sill Bushing with the head of the screw resting on the top of the Iso-Sill Bushing. Below is a profile for a typical installation of Iso-Sill with Iso-Sill Bushings.
