The Iso-Sill Bushing is used in conjunction with the Iso-Sill product that reduces flanking between bottom plate and top plate framing and the sub-floor or ceiling joists. This bushing is shipped as two separate pieces with one 3/8" thick factory cut 40 duro Shore A rubber washer along with a 1/16" thick zinc fender washer sized to fit directly over the rubber washer. The inside diameter of the fender washer allows for a 1/4" diameter screw or bolt.
Our Iso-Sill Bushings mimic the break in connection between the screw and the framing that you would find in a resilient sound clip like the GenieClip. Without the bushing, the screw would install directly into the bottom plate. This would reduce performance of the Iso-Sill that you have installed under the bottom plate. The Iso-Sill Bushing is installed to allow the screw to only come in contact at two points. One is with the sub-floor at the floor connection and the other is the head of the screw that is installed tight to the bushing. Because of this we strongly recommend use of the Iso-Sill Bushing to maximize the performance of the Iso-Sill that you install under your wall's bottom plate.
The Iso-Sill Bushing can be installed with mechanical fasteners (typically a 3" coarse thread wood screw). The 2" x 4" or 2" x 6" bottom or top plate should be pre-drilled with a 3/4" diameter hole. The fastening screw or anchor passes through the Iso-Sill Bushing with the head of the screw resting on the top of the Iso-Sill Bushing. Below is a profile for a typical installation of Iso-Sill with Iso-Sill Bushings.
