Our pipe wrap is a very versatile product. While it is commonly used to wrap drain pipes, this product can really be applied against any smooth surface to reduce that surface's vibrations. You can use pipe wrap in HVAC installations (registers and returns), on the interior walls of your car doors and trunk, and along the sides of any piece of machinery.
Pipe wrap is similar to mass loaded vinyl in weight, but has much better damping properties than mass loaded vinyl. The black side of the pipe wrap is very sticky and will easily attach to pipes or other surfaces without additional methods of attachment. The opposite side is a reflective aluminum that will maintain a look consistent to sheet metal.
Each sheet of pipe wrap is 15" wide x 24" long x 1/8" thick.
Our pipe wrap is typically used to wrap drain pipes. To figure out the circumference of your pipe, multiply the diameter of the pipe by 3.14.
- For a 3" drain pipe, the circumference is 9 1/2".
- For a 4" drain pipe, the circumference is 12 1/2".
Using these numbers you can estimate that if you have a 4" drain pipe then each sheet of pipe wrap will be able to cover 24 linear inches of pipe. If you have a 3" drain pipe then each sheet of pipe wrap can be cut in half (to make each sheet 15" x 12") to cover 30 linear inches of pipe.
For other non-pipe related projects, estimating for this product can be based on the square footage of each sheet which is 2.7 square feet.
Our pipe wrap is very effective at isolating the sound that is traveling through your drain pipes. This product will rate as well as 1 LB TotalMass which has an STC rating of 27. However, the damping properties of the pipe wrap will be superior to MLV when applied to metal and plastic materials. Adding our Pipe Wrap to a PVC drain pipe will bring the isolation level in line with or better than a cast iron drain pipe.
Applying pipe wrap is very simple. You can easily cut this material with a standard razor knife. There is no requirement to overlap this material, but it is important not to leave any gaps. Pipe wrap will stick to itself so it is very easy to piece together when required so there is no need to plan for any waste.

The [installers] are impressed with how it is working...as they progressed [the drain pipe] got quieter and quieter.
