What Is Green Glue?
Green Glue is fast to install, easy to use, highly cost effective, and it works. Independent lab tests prove that just one layer of Green Glue between two layers of drywall or other similar building material dissipates up to 90 percent of noise. Unlike competitive soundproofing products, Green Glue cuts out the low frequency noises commonly produced by home entertainment, theater systems, and band rehearsal areas.
Applying Green Glue with our dispensing gun and five gallon buckets is a great way to reduce costs while still applying a full coverage of Green Glue. Loading the dispensing gun is quick, easy, and accurate. For larger projects you can have multiple 'Green Glue Stations' which will expedite the application process considerably.
Starting at around .70ยข per square foot in five gallon buckets, Green Glue delivers unbeatable value and performance. It is perfect for residential and commercial use and is just as easy to use in new construction as it is on existing walls or in renovation projects. Since Green Glue is used as a damping agent you can improve the performance of a wall without worrying about the triple leaf effect which is a common problem with retrofit installations when using resilient sound clip systems.
In addition, Green Glue has been validated for use in any fire rated assembly according to the International Building Code. It also does not contribute to mold growth, is low V.O.C., and has almost no odor. Green Glue can be easily cleaned up while still wet with soap and water.
How Much Green Glue Would I Need?
| Square Foot Coverage For Each Application Level | |
| Supreme: | 245 square feet per bucket |
| Normal: | 365 square feet per bucket |
| Good: | 730 square feet per bucket |
To calculate your total square footage you will need to multiply the width by the length of your ceiling or width by the height of your wall.
TRY OUR HANDY GREEN GLUE CALCULATOR
Remember when calculating total square footage, one of the bigger advantages Green Glue has over engineered damping drywall is the fact that there is no waste when using Green Glue.
Review the 3 different application levels (remember each tube from the dispensing gun is equal to 1 tube of Green Glue):
Supreme: This coverage will provide around a 35% to 45% increase in isolation in low frequencies over Normal coverage, but no improvement over Normal coverage in high frequencies. Supreme coverage is equal to 3 tubes per 4' x 8' sheet of material. Supreme coverage is useful in home theaters, recording studios, and band practice areas.
Normal: This is the recommended amount by the manufacturer. This coverage equals 2 tubes per 4' x 8' sheet of material. This coverage provides great results in both STC ratings (high frequency) and OITC ratings (low frequency).
Good: This level of coverage is for projects on a tighter budget and is equal to 1 tube per 4' x 8' sheet of material. When customers are looking for an alternative to the cost of Green Glue, we typically tell them just use half as much Green Glue. The performance is still very good at this coverage in both high and low frequencies and will outperform products like sound board, homasote, resilient channel, and MLV.

How Do I Apply Green Glue From Buckets?
Green Glue buckets contain 640 ounces of Green Glue which means each bucket is equal to 22.5 tubes of Green Glue. Each load of the dispensing gun is equal to 1 tube of Green Glue so estimating with the dispensing gun is very easy. Applying Green Glue with the dispensing gun is as simple as inserting the orange cone nozzle into the bucket, pulling back on the 'T' lever and from there you dispense as you would with any caulking gun device. We keep the cost of our dispensing gun low by stocking several guns at all of our locations. To learn more about our dispensing gun please click here.
READ OUR IN-DEPTH GREEN GLUE DISPENSING GUN APPLICATION GUIDE
When applying with the dispensing gun in between layers of drywall on your walls or ceiling then you would apply the Green Glue as evenly as possible on the second layer of drywall and then screw the second layer of drywall into the first layer with a standard screw pattern. To help apply Green Glue evenly throughout the layer of drywall dispense the Green Glue in an "S-like" fashion until the tube has been fully dispensed.
When applying with a square notched trowel in between layers of sub-floor on your floors then you would apply the Green Glue as evenly as possible with a 1/8" square notched trowel to the area of the floor you are going to screw the new layer to. You will still want to screw the second layer of sub-floor rather than nailing so the Green Glue can properly compress. Be careful when applying with a trowel because it is very easy to over apply the Green Glue. For increased performance in low frequencies then apply the Green Glue with a 1/4" square notched trowel.
While the dispensing gun will last around 365 square feet at normal coverage, expect application with a 1/8" square notched trowel to last around 325 square feet.

Green Glue Testimonials
Actual reviews from past Sound Isolation Store customers.
I could tell right away that Green Glue was the best product for my home theater builds. Installation was less tedious than [engineered damping drywall] and cost considerably less as well. I will definitely be back for more.
- Tim from Illinois
I was honestly surprised that the Green Glue accomplished what your site said it could. My bedroom is once again quiet and my neighbors are no longer an issue. Thanks for all the help!
